Compound Interest And your health

This graph is from the book Atomic Habits written by James Clear. This book is a powerful resource to change your perspective about habits and how to correctly implement habits to create real, long term change.

Human beings have a tough time sticking with a new habit when we aren’t seeing results in a short period of time. Looking at the graph, if you implement small changes and can be consistent over a period of time, the results start to appear months after starting the habit. Simply, this is compound interest. Just like money in the stock market traditionally doubles every 7 years. Most of us give up before we are able to see and feel true change. This is the same with rehab and physical therapy, especially when you’ve dealt with chronic issues. If you’ve been in pain for months, years, etc. we want to see changes in pain intensity and frequency early on, but true change and implementing specific exercises and progressions takes time to make long term changes to make sure this pain/injury never returns again. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? 100%.
