The Key To Understanding Pain

Pain is a complex topic and is often misunderstood within our healthcare system resulting in patient confusion. It’s important to be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out any red flags/serious pathology that be causing your pain. Once that has all been cleared, it’s important to view pain through a biopsychosocial lens meaning there can be multiple factors impacting the pain system resulting in the system being overprotective creating the pain response.

When our pain system becomes over protective, it stops us doing the movements, activities and other things and that are actually necessary for recovery.

Movement is critical for recovery, but the progression and specifics of how you go about it are important to return to a pain-free state.

What we recommend:

Be evaluated by a physical therapist to create clarity in your situation and develop a game plan to help you along the way. A game plan that considers the biological, pyschological and social implications to provide a holistic approach and refer out to other healthcare providers when appropriate.

Here is a fact that some may find surprising:

‘Disc bulges’ are so common in people WITHOUT back pain that many scientists think they are not abnormal but a common and normal part of aging? 50% of 40-year-olds WITHOUT back pain have a disc bulge!

If you were injured more than two months ago then a vast amount of healing has already happened. Don’t underestimate how magnificent and irresistible this healing capacity is.

Let’s get you back to the life you deserve.
